4/x=23/8x+3

OpenStudy (espex):

Let's assume that your equation is \[\frac{4}{x}=\frac{23}{8x}+3\] Get both fractions containing your variable to the same side of the equation. \[\frac{4}{x}=\frac{23}{8x}+3 \rightarrow \frac{4}{x}-\frac{23}{8x}=3\] Next, in order to subtract the two they must have a common denominator. \[(\frac{8}{8})\frac{4}{x}-\frac{23}{8x}\rightarrow \frac{32}{8x}-\frac{23}{8x}\] Now combine your fractions and then isolate your x. \[\frac{32}{8x}-\frac{23}{8x}=3 \rightarrow \frac{9}{8x}=3\]\[(8x) \frac{9}{8x}=3(8x)\rightarrow 9=24x\] All that is left is to solve for x.
