4x^2=20x solve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 4, x = 5 x = 4, x = −5 x = 0, x = 5 x = 0, x = −5

i need to know wich one it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0 and 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

4x^2=20x 4x^2- 20x = 0 4x( x - 5 ) = 0 4x = 0 or x-5 = 0 x = 0/4 or x - 5 = 0 x = 0 or x = 5

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm factoring, then using the zero product property to get the two answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay now i undestand.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

an alternative is to just plug in the possible answers so 4x^2 = 20x 4(0) = 20(0) ... plug in x = 0 0 = 0 .. that works so x = 0 is a solution and you repeat this for the other possible solutions
