OpenStudy (fools101):

"B" Here's a brief overview: The Democrats split into northern and southern, and a remenant of Whigs in the border states formed the Constitutional Union party, thus ensuring a republican victory. Lincoln fell a bit short of a majority, but won because of this. The north outnumbered the south and outvoted them. All four canidates received electoral votes.
