first one, the two triangles are similar with ratio 5:3
a/b = 3/5
b/(8+a) = 3/5

second one, they are similar too
x/ (x+5) = (x-2)/(2x-1)

solves those

Oh, I solved the second one! :D I don't understand the equation you gave for the first... I just do the second equation- b/(8+a) = 3/5?

which one did u do?

a/b = 3/5
5a = 3b

b/(8+a) = 3/5
5b = 24 + 3a

5a = 3b           * 5           25 a = 15 b
24 + 3a = 5b   * 3          72 + 9a = 15b

-72 + 16a = 0
a = 4.5
substitute back in to find b

I did, a couple of times but I'm no getting any of the multiple choice. The closest I'm getting to is the third one, c.... Is it C?

a = 4.5 = 9/2
5a = 3b
5 (9/2) = 3b
15/2 = b
