Synthetic Division: (x^2+13x+40) divided by (x+8) Show Steps Please So I Can Understand It...(:

(x^2 + 13x + 40) ÷ (x + 8) (x+8)(x+5) ÷ (x + 8) the (x+8)'s cancel each other out. (x+5) is your answer.

In order to use long division like that, you just use the first term (x) and make it equal the first term (x2). In that case. You'd have just x. Foil the 8 through so you get x2+8x. The x2's cancel out and you have 5x+40 now. Make x = 5x so 5. Foil the 8 through so yo uget 5x + 40. Both cancel out so no remainder and the final answer is x+5.
