When a question asks for an evaluation of a series of numbers, what does it mean? 1+4+16+64+256+1024 The next term, 4096, isn't the correct answer. The answer is also not a sigma. Please explain all steps taken.

It just means simplify the series to get an easier version... like here you can get the numerical value of the expression...

How would I do that?

What it makes sense to me in here is to sum up all the terms... While the sequence is essentially a Geometric Progression... The terms are... 1^2 + 2^2 + 2^4 + 2^6 + 2^8 + 2^10 As it is a G.P. you can directly apply the G.P. summation formula... a= 1, r (common ratio) = 2^2 = 4 , n (number of terms) = 6 Now you can apply the formula...
