Let's look at this graphically: for x < 8, we have y = 10+x, which is a line of slope 1, translated up 10 units:|dw:1362074402369:dw| For x >= 8, we have y = 10-x, which is a line of slope -1, translated up 10 units |dw:1362074481738:dw| Are those lines anywhere close to intersecting at x = 8?
