What is the relationship between the two quantities? The height of a person and the weight of a person. A. Positive correlation B. Negative correlation C. No correlation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi lease help?

OpenStudy (phi):

correlated means if you know one you have some idea of the other. positive correlation means if one gets bigger the other gets bigger negative correlation means if one gets bigger, the other gets smaller.

OpenStudy (phi):

if you are told one person is taller than another then what do you expect for their weight (on average)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got ossitive correlation for my answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that right?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. taller generally means heavier (on average)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okai I was kinda confused because im 5 11 and i only weigh 120

OpenStudy (phi):

think like this: get a lot of people who are 5 11 and get their average weight get a lot of people 6 2 and get the average weight. which group will be heavier?

OpenStudy (phi):

the fat short ones will not be as heavy as the fat tall ones ditto for the skinny short versus the skinny tall...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya. true that.

OpenStudy (phi):

so correlated means "on average" there will be exceptions, which is why the correlation won't be 100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright thanks!:)
