-5x+20+2=-13                and to check-
-5x+22=-13                    -5(7-4)+2=-13?   
-5x=-35                           -35+20+2=-13?
x=7                                   -15+2=-13
                                            -13=-13!

first you distributed the -5 and you get
-5x+20 +2=-13
combine like terms
-5x+22=-13
subtract 22 from both sides
-5x=-35
divide each side by -5
you get
x=7
