A lunar Eclipse is shown in figure 1. A lunar Eclipse happens when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into shadow (umbra) This can only occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned together. The Earth will be in the middle (Look at the figure one), the type of the eclipse depends upon the moons location. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth.
