OpenStudy (angelwings996):

Find the arithmetic mean a_n of the given terms. a_(n-1)=-2x, a_(n+1)=2x

hartnn (hartnn):

arithmetic mean is just the average, so, add them and divide it by 2, \(\large a_n = \dfrac{a_{n-1}+a_{n+1}}{2}\)

OpenStudy (angelwings996):

Oh so like...\[\frac{ -2x+2x }{ 2 }\] But it would equal 0 then

hartnn (hartnn):

thats your arithmetic mean!

hartnn (hartnn):

and is correct :)

OpenStudy (angelwings996):

Ohh so 0 is the answer? Okay thank you! I made it harder than it was

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^
