Nice question. 8 seconds for 5 meters forward and then 3 backwards. 8 more seconds again to reach 4 meters from the starting point. 8 more seconds again to reach 6 meters from the starting point. But when he walks 5 meters forward, after 5 seconds, he would be 11 meters from the start and fall inside.
