I say we all sign a petition saying that we stay away from OS for a month if the mods aren't given an IP ban button in a week.

ip bans are a blanket that would possibly cover non offenders as well

To fix the exploit of why OS is currently down, and that username bug, start validating user input on the server side more, particularly on the sign up page. In this case you coded your website with SCALA (correct?) so you'd do something like this: http://blog.lunatech.com/2012/03/02/validation-scala
