Is linear regression calculated by creating a guess equation y=ax+b with the experimental constants inserted? @hartnn

my measured slope is 0.5545 and the calculated predictions slope is 0.5600
I don't need to calculate the linear regression, I just want to understand what it is

Sum of (the distance from data points to fit line)^2
