I solved 2 cos(2x)+3=2 using inverse and then solved the same equation using the double angle formula, why are the answers different? what is the correct method?

I solved it both ways and got the same answer. When you use the double-angle formula you introduce a square which gives positive and negative roots, whereas direct use of the inverse on cos2x places x only in quadrants II and III.
