I just need an example of communications technology and is VoIP a type communications technology? It's communication through the net! Oh idk...please help!

VoIP is a type of communications technology.  It is however, utilizing or expanding the use of another existing communication technologies - the IP or internet protocol and conversion of analog audio signals to digital, which in principle the same as how your cellular or mobile communications work. 

VoIP is not new though.  Think of how internet relay chats like AIM, MSN, Yahoo messenger and more have taken advantage of existing technology to broaden communications beyond chats, text or private messaging.
