Construct the line perpendicular to KL at point M...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perpendicular line has the negative reciprocal slope of KL, then just plug in (x,y) values of M to find the y intercept

I dont understand.... ̄□ ̄||

@arjont is doing coordinate Geometry. From the answer options, this question appears to ask about constructions with a compass and straightedge.

Directrix (directrix):

I see point M in the diagram but is it given in the diagram or did you place it there? I ask because that affects the construction. And, is M given to be the midpoint of segment KL?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No it was there before,the question didnt say M's the midpoint so i dont know....

Directrix (directrix):

Okay, I am going to construct the perpendicular to segment KL and passing through M and show how I would do it. But, I have to say upfront that I don't see an answer option that looks like the technique I learned. Here we go.

Directrix (directrix):

Task: Construct the line perpendicular to segment KL such that the constructed line passes through point M on segment KL>
