I'm not sure anyone besides the Japanese army supported the Bataan Death March. When the news of how badly the prisoners were treated was leaked out into the public, it only angered the Americans. To the Japanese, however, their propaganda made it seem like they "liberated" the Philippines and that the prisoners were treated fairly (they were not as the thousands of Filipions and the hundreds of Americans that died along the way can attest to).
