Einstein's theory of special relativity, in a nutshell, shows that the Galilean equations are incorrect and that time is relative to one's inertial reference frame. One application is in modern GPS systems. Without taking this theory into account, GPS systems would be inaccurate. I can't really explain the theory in detail without getting into the drawn-out derivation.
