A car is driven east for a distance of 42 km, then north for 30 km, and then in a direction 33° east of north for 24 km. Determine (a) the magnitude (in km) of the car's total displacement from its starting point and (b) the angle (from east) of the car's total displacement measured from its starting direction.

Total displacement=seg DB.....construct a triangle DBF where DF and BF become the side and DB the hypotenuse....we know that DF=DE+EF nd we also know that EF=AB(triangle ABC)....similarly BF=AC+CE nd we can find out AC....so in triangle ABC apply the trigonometry ratios to find AC nd AB...nd then U have to sides of the constructed triangle DFB so apply the Pythagoras theorem nd get the total displacemeant (displacement=shortest distance between any to given points)|dw:1362307926072:dw|

PS please dont mind the diagram... :p

nd question B can be done by using trigo ratios
