Watergate was a famous scandal that involved people that were close to President Nixon breaking and entering the Democratic National Committee Headquarters at the Watergate Office Complex in Washington DC. This was carried out by members of his administration and when the FBI investigated, they found that money stolen from Watergate was used in a slush fund for the organization Committee for the Re-Election of the President (CREEP). They also found that Nixon had covered up tapes of conversations that contained illegal and questionable material. After a bitter court battle in the Supreme Court, the court ordered him to release the tapes. Americans were upset because Nixon tried to cover this up.
