Howto find area of a triangle?? It says if QP = 10, MN = 25, and LS = 8, calculate the area of triangle LMN
Use Heron's formula.
Which is?
With sides \(a,b,c\) let \(s = (a+b+c)/2\) the area is just \(\sqrt{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)}\)
Oh ok! thank you. Let me solve that real fast
Will you put the numbers in the equation? I'm getting 43. And thats not correct. Then i got 129 which isnt correct either
area = base * height/2 when the lengths are scaled by n we get area = nbase * nheight/2 = n^2 bh/2 as a proportion
in other words, you need to determine the lengths of the corresponding sides using ratios and proportionalities most likely
What does N mean? I really dont understand math at all. Btw thanks for the help so far
I got 20 for line SR
n is just a variable i used to indicate a scaling factor. if you know the area of one of the triangles, and you can determine the scaling factor for the similar triangles; you can proportion out the areas as well
Ok. So I need to break the triangle up into two different triangles?
|dw:1362360114357:dw|
area LMN = area LQP time n^2 such the 10n=25, n=2.5
Ok. Let me find the area of the small triangle
I got 200
And then divide by 2 so 100
for the top? Area LQP = QP*LS/2 = 10*8/2 = 40 for the top
|dw:1362360441583:dw|
Oh I did 25*8
Then what is our next step
