Algebra 1 help

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

6/x = 15/5 solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you. I got 18! Thank you so much!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's not 18 6/x = 15/5 6*5 = 15x 30 = 15x 15x = 30 x = 30/15 x = 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. I must have switched the numbers around by accident. Thank you!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I can see why you wanted to say 18 though, you tripled 6 to get 18 but instead, you divide 6/3 to get 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did this: 6 x 6/x = 15/5 x = 90/5 90 divided by 5 = 18 x = 18. I know the answer is wrong, but that is how I got it. Thank you for showing me how to do it right!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ah i see how you got it now, glad to be of help
