positive fifty six divded by ( negative 7 ) is equal to what value ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-8. Which part was confusing you in this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the whole thing but thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What would you do if I asked you to work out 56 divided by 7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For multiplication and division, if the signs are the same the answer is positive, and if the signs are different the answer is negative.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup, so first ignore the sign and do the division, which you did correctly. Then worry about the sign. So you have two different signs, and so the answer is negative. So you stick a minus sign in front of the 8.
