1995, the United States introduced the varicella, or chicken pox, vaccine to the general public. This immunization gives you a small dose of the chicken pox. isnt it supposed to shorten your chances of getting it ??

To answer your last question, it helps indeed against the chicken pox, you might have some symptoms after the vaccination. But this will be less than when you get them without vaccination. After you had your vaccination you will be less susceptible to get the disease, because your immune system can react faster when you come in contact with the disease (you can say that your body remembers the disease).

well if they put the chicken pox in u, u can only get this disease once in a lifetime, there wouldnt be a point in learning to defend your self against it. i would rather get the vaccine to not get it at all.

The reason you can only get it once is because your body 'knows' the disease and already knows how to protect itself against it. It's not that after you are vaccinated you never come in contact with it again, you actually will come in contact with it but your body will deal with it all by itself. And indeed normally it shouldn't affect you, sometimes you can get a small reaction from it, but that mostly feels like a cold.
