Need help making an equation. Need some translation: Carol scored 40 points higher on the math portion of the SAT test than on the language portion. If her total score for both pars was 1260, what was her score on each part?

OpenStudy (kamille):

Lets say, he scored x points on the language portion. So, it means he has scored x+40 points in math portion. THat gives you a n equation: x+x+40=1260 solve for x and you will find how points he scored in language section. After you have found it, add 40 to language points and you will get math points:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract 40 from 1260 the divide by 2 and thats wat u get for the math portion. then subtract that number from 1260 and get ur language answer!!!
