The world record for the high jump is held by Javier Sotomayor at 2.45m. If he weighed 68kg, could muster a run up speed of 9m/s, had a center of mass which is 1.2m above the floor and took 0.3s to push off from the floor then calculate the stress in his fibula. Note: the Fosbury Flop uses both feet to push off from the ground, the cross-sectional area of the fibula is 1cm^2 and that the fibula plays a minor role in weight bearing with the tibia supporting approx. 95% of the weight. Stress is defined as force per unit area.
