Why is it incorrect to think that the more digits you represent in your answer, the more accurate it is?

it infact is if you say 300m then it has one significant figure if you say 312m then there are 3 significant figures in it!

If you're measuring the length of a one meter long stick, 1.01 meters is considerably more accurate than 5.483722839403 meters. It's less *precise*, but more *accurate*.
