If asked to solve the system y = -3x + 5 and 5x - 4y = -3 using substitution, what would you do first and why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well...we know that y = -3x + 5. So, the first thing I would do is substitute -3x - 5 in for y in the 2nd equation. This will allow you to then solve for x.

oops...I meant sub in -3x + 5 in for y.
