I cut myself when I get emotionally distressed. Is that normal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try to punch pillow, scream in a hot towel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I find that difficult. Cutting seems much more effective.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh then cut anything soft {not including yourself}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I find no enjoyment in that unfortunately.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well cut someone else.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm too young to have homicide on my hands.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well keep cutting yourself then pssshhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dont cut ur self just live through it like me.......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your really asking if this is normal ? The answer is no. You need to get some help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Wolfmoonsword I understand how you feel..I also youst to cut. and NO it is not normal....But I do know that it makes you feel better, and you should know that you are worth so much more than a razor...And for those of you who also comminted who probly think people cut to get "Attention" consider this: of all the things you could possibly do for attention, is carving your skin with a razor really at the top of the list? Probably not. It is a realy tough thing to go through, and when you just try to stop it gets worse and you do stupid things for example I was addicted to Meth by 15 because I didnt know how to deal with the things that happen to me...This is not something you can go through on your own to try and fix yourself, you need to talk to somebody you can trust even if thats just a friend or someone in your family...and if you dont truse any of them you can even talk to me on here it dosnt matter because you have something or things on your mind that if you dont get it out you WILL go down a no good path...and believe me I know from experiance...so PLEASE try to stop hurting yourself like you said earlyer your young and still have the rest of your life ahead of you dont let something like this stop you. (please excuse my spelling)

Well I don't know if you would call it normal or abnormal. But it's not a healthy way of dealing with those emotions that you give you a hard time. You probably already knew that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I used todo that I think it's unhealthy umm but like my thoughts is theres no harm if im not cutting veins or it doesn't hurt. But i think it's something you need to talk with a professional with you need to stop and possibly think of healthy alternatives cutting does nothing and its extremely stressful trying to hide cuts so why do it and get more stressed but if you feel the need to keep on doing it don't do it in vital areas or maybe just scratch don't hurt your self stay positive and help your self

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@helter-skelter12345 I know your trying to help but, there realy IS harm in it even if your not cutting veins (everything else you said I completely agree with)... it has much more to do with emotions, and your brain trying to show on the outside how you feel on the inside. which is why, like I said befor you need to talk to someone :)

OpenStudy (bostonblue):

sometimes it's really hard to ask for help. but you did a good thing by starting out asking your question here! stabar is right, you should look for someone you can talk to who can help you. friends are great and supportive, and that's good - but they don't always know how to help. a good person to start with might be a school counselor or a teacher you trust. you could also google to see if there's a 'cutting' hotline that you could call. sometimes, if it's too hard to reach out to a person, a hotline can be a good first step. hotlines can be a place where you can get understanding and advice about how to find help. but if you can reach out to a person, that would be the best thing to do. i knew a girl who asked her friend to go and talk to the school counselor with her, because she didn't want to go alone. i thought she was brave to do that.

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

That is not normal. That would be considered mayhem on oneself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it might not help much but it does alittle if you have a rubberband on your rist and every time you feel like cutting just nap the rubberband on your rist... its not the same but it does help alittle with doing it less

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what I tryed
