OpenStudy (jennychan12):

Can someone please explain the three right hand rules of magnetism?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

The one I remember is that if you have your fingers wrapped around a wire carrying a current, if your thumb points in the direction the current flows, the magnetic field flows along your fingers, in the direction they point.

OpenStudy (jennychan12):

ok. thanks anyways :)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

In general, if you have your thumb pointing up, your index finger pointing straight out (like a kid making a gun out of his hand) and the middle finger pointing perpendicular to the plane of the thumb and index finger, you have the directions of \[a\text{ x }b = c\] where a,b,c are vectors represented by thumb, index, middle fingers respectively.
