how do i find the sum of a geometric series?

OpenStudy (zehanz):

A geometric series has the form \(a_{n}=a \cdot r^n\), where a is the first term, and r is the constant factor. Its sum is \(S=\dfrac{a}{1-r}\). This formula holds only for |r|<1, because otherwise it diverges.
