88.8 cm + 71 mm

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

"c" stands for "centi" $$=10^{-2}$$ "m" stands for "milli" $$10^{-3}$$

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

@_gabitha_ does that help?

OpenStudy (dan815):

very good explaination

OpenStudy (dan815):

they shud just stop using centi and milli just start using 10^x

OpenStudy (dan815):

i used to hate when i saw nano and giga and mega and angstrom all at once

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@skullpatrol. Well, this is a question from an assignment named "adding and subtracting measurements" Some options are A)95.9 cm B)95.18 cm C) 79.88 cm D) 159.8 cm

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

That helps, because all the measurements are in "cm".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@skullpatrol . okkkkk :)

OpenStudy (dan815):

gabita 10 mm = 1 centimeter right so if u have 77 mm how many centimeter is that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

770? @dan815

OpenStudy (dan815):

always remember than when you are adding numbers your units have to be the same so if you want to add 77mm to 88.8 cm then you need to put them in the same cm and since your answer is in cm, you want to convert everything into cm

OpenStudy (dan815):

10mm = 1 cm 77mm = 7.7 cm

OpenStudy (dan815):

does that make sense

OpenStudy (dan815):

like lets say 5 fingers make up 1 hand

OpenStudy (dan815):

if 5 fingers make up 1 hand then how many fingers make up 2 hands? 5 Fingers = 1 hand __ Fingers = 2 hands

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10

OpenStudy (dan815):

right just like that if 10 mm = 1 cm 77 mm = __ cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7cm. (rounded)

OpenStudy (dan815):

yep 7.7 cm to be exact but you are getting the jist of it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (dan815):

so now you can add 88.8 cm +7.7 cm =

OpenStudy (dan815):

one more thing have you learnt algebra yet?

OpenStudy (dan815):

like solving for X or anything like that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dan815 . yeah, this is a review before the state exams and I just need to refresh my mind on some things.

OpenStudy (dan815):

oh btw your question is 71mm so thats 7.1 cm so you want to add 88.8cm + 7.1 cm

OpenStudy (dan815):

oh okay then remember this method to solve for these things 10 mm = 1 cm 77 mm = x cm so you want to cross multiply x * 10 = 1* 77 x = 1 * 77 / 10 x = 7.7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dan815 95.8cm.... right?

OpenStudy (dan815):

yes

OpenStudy (dan815):

remember that cross multiplication method its very important
