In an isoceles triangle, two sides are twice as long as the third. What is the length of the SHORTEST side if the perimeter is 40 inches? (Note: Must provide equation with a variable) **HELP!!** Please? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P= 40inches Let's call the shortest side, the base, x. The other two sides are twice as long as x, so the two sides would be 2x and 2x, because they are identical in length. So, Perimeter means add all the length of the sides: P= x+2x+2x

once you get that, equal it to 40 and solve for x. then you'll get your answer.
