Which of these sentences from Orpheus and Eurydice is an example of hyberbole? (1 point) Orpheus invited Hymen, the god of marriage, to bless the wedding with his presence. Soon he saw the River Styx, which separates the Underworld from the world of the living. He was the king of Thrace, the most musical of all the Greek people. Trees gathered around to hear his beautiful notes.
Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration for emphasis. It is a literary device. I found this site incredibly useful when facing questions like this during the course of my own studies. It will help with other questions like this. ---> http://literary-devices.com/content/hyperbole The only sentence that makes sense as an answer to this question is the last sentence. Trees can't gather around to hear his beautiful notes, so this statement is clearly exaggeration. It is, incidentally, also an instance of personification - giving human traits to inanimate objects. I hope this helps, and do feel free to message me if you have any more questions. :)
i think its the third one i looked over for a wile its my final desision
Absolutely make up your own mind. Alexa's help is every bit as valuable as mine. I encourage you to read the definition of Hyperbole on the website link I sent you, and answer in the way that feels right for you. :) The reason that I didn't choose the 3rd sentence is merely because pinnacles in achievement aren't necessarily absurd exaggerations. One can, indeed, be a world champion in something, or be the best in the country at something. The very stones or trees attending a concert seems like more of an exaggeration, but I do see Alexa's point. Being the greatest in the land can seem like an exaggeration in order to make the subject of the text seem more heroic. Therefore, read the definition, and answer in the way that makes sense for you. :) If anyone has faced this question in particular, I encourage you to help choose between the two answers for klepez.
