√(5x-1) +3 = x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{5x-1}=x-3\] is a start square both sides, get \[5x-1=x^2-6x+9\] and solve the resulting quadratic don't forget to check your solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the quadratic will be \[x^2-11x+10=0\] which luckily factors as \[(x-10)(x-1)=0\] and so \(x=1\) or \(x=10\) but DON'T FORGET TO CHECK!!

thank you so much
