A trapezoid is drawn on a grid with vertices at P (-5, 7), Q (-2, 7), R (2, 3), and S (-8, 3). Trapezoid UVWX will be drawn similar to Trapezoid PQRS with side WX corresponding to side RS. The point (8, -4) will be the location of vertex W and point (-12, -4) will be the location of point X. What will be the coordinates of vertex V? Show all your work or explain your reasoning.

I think it is v (11,-2) , but im not sure.

@jim_thompson5910 please help

@Mertsj please help

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Did you draw the graph? because that's what I have to do to solve this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says the trap. has to be similar and the given one has a slope of 4/3 so the one i created has a slope of 2/1. Would that be considered similar?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I got(0,4) for V

OpenStudy (mertsj):

To get from R to Q I had to go up 4 and left 4 so to get from W to V I need to go up 4 and left 4 twice. So if W is (8,-4) and I go up 4 twice, I will be at 4 for y. If I go left 4 twice, I will be at 0 for x .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make them similar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the other point be at -6,4 ?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If the slopes of the sides are the same and the corresponding sides have the same ratio, then they are similar.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Yes the Point U is (-6,4)

Thank you!
