You are planning a deck along two sides of a pool. The diagram, which is not drawn to scale, shows how the deck is divided into three sections. The area of section 1 is 240 square feet. The area of section 2 is 64 square feet. The area of section 3 is 160 square feet. Find the perimeter around the entire deck. All measurements in the diagram are in feet.

wow i like the diagram !!

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

lets begin with section 1 here the length = 3x +6 and breadth = x therefore area will be ?

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

no sorry lets take section 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

then x multiplied by x = 64 right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha thanks @AravindG

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

so x^2 = 64 so x = sqrt(64) = ?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

i seriously recommend giving students questions like that ... makes study much more interesting and colourful ! ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha and @pratyush5 okay so x=8?

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

yes . now since x = 8 you can find the dimensions of all the three sides and the calculate the perimeter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so I got 27 for 1and 20 for 3 but how do I do 2? just 8x8 or?
