What is the factored form of 4x2 + 12x + 5? I have 4x^2 + 2x + 10x +5 2x (2x + x) 5 (2x + x) but I always get stuck once I get to this part

(2x + x)(2x + 5)

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

well lets see 4x² + 12x + 5 we know we need to find the factors of 5...which is just 1 and 5 so (2x + 1) (2x + 5) 4x² + 10x + 2x + 5 4x² + 12x + 5 there we go...to factor you need to see what times what equals what you want....you find the factors of the constant number first (5) and you use those like I did in the parenthesis...then you have 4x² well the factors of that are 4,1 or 2,2...so after trying the 2x and 2x it worked out...so thats what you do
