Take a look at this picture: http://water.me.vccs.edu/courses/env108/clipart/cellwall.gif It's a side-by-side comparison of Gram POSITIVE, and Gram NEGATIVE bacteria. You see, they both have something call PEPTIDOGLYCAN. EUBACTERIA have peptidoglycan. ARCHAEBACTERIA DO NOT have peptidoglycan. That leads us to believe that archaebacteria are NEITHER gram positive, NOR gram negative.
