Solve the system x + y = 6 and x - y = 2. What is the value of x? 6 2 4 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 4?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

If you add the two equations it will eliminate y and enable you to confirm the value of x.

@johnweldon1993 johnnyboy it is 4 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks @kropot72

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

-.- lol that's how you call me? lol...yes as @kropot72 said...you add the 2 equations and then you have 2x = 8 so yes x = 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=6-y\] then change the value of x in the second equation to get\[(6-y)-y=2\]rearrange to get\[2y=4\]therefore\[y=2\]put this value into one of the equations to get\[x+(2)=6 \]\[x=4\]

thanks @malcolm11235 and johnnyboy of course thats how i call you, you know you like it;)
