Can a sound frequency not within human hearing (20 Hz - 20 kHz) damage hearing when high sound volume is used?

i don't think so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope.. cause when the sound frequency is either above or below the threshold, your ears will not even pick up the signals.. the drum won't even vibrate.. so it doesn't matter HOW loud (how high the amplitude ) is.. you can easily test this.. by using a sound generator program and putting high or low frequency sounds and increasing volume.. it won't pain at all!

According to the report at the following link much more research is needed on the subject. http://www.hse.gov.uk/research/crr_pdf/2001/crr01343.pdf

May be possible.
