Solve for x: qx^2+rx+s=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its just the quadratic formula .....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what do you recall the quadratic to look like?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

quadratic formula to look like that is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = ax^2 + bx +c

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, that not a formula, that is a quadratic "equation". The quadratic formula has a setup similar to:\[x=\frac{this\pm\sqrt{that}}{2(something)}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you can help me out by filling in what you believe are the parts, that would be great

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= (- b ±√(b^2- 4ac))/2a

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thats beautiful! :) and all theve done is renamed the abc parts as what ... qrs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool...and?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so just rename the parts: a=q, b=r, c=s .... and thats the solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok...cool...i found my answere thx!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if they had renamed the parts abc as say .... 5 3 3, then we would just fill in the parts with a=5, b=3, c=3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck ;)
