Evaluate each piecewise function for x 8 and x 5. 1. f(x) {2x if x<0 0 if x>0

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Hint: f(x) = 2x if x < 0 or f(x) = 0 if x > 0

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Is that supposed to say x = 8 and x = 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is suppose to say x=-8 and x=5

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Rule 1: Your function says for all x values less than 0, the y value is 2 times the x value. Rule 2: Your function says for all x values greater than 0, the y value is 0. Those are the two rules of your function. Now the problem says to find the y value when x = 8. So you have to figure out which rule to use. Is 8 less than 0 or greater than 0. Which rule should you use?
