Someone please explain how to use the Hardy-Weinberg equation??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the equation??

OpenStudy (followthefez):

Yeah, just don't understand what each part of it means and how it's used to answer questions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm. it says that genotype and allele frequency remains undisturbed unless and until there is any mutation. consider a gene it may be either aa, AA or Aa let frequency of a = p let the frequency of A = Q p+q=1 the above eqn is written considering the allele from single parent. frequency of aa = p^2 frequency of AA = q^2 frequency of Aa = 2pq (possible combinations) so the eqn becomes P^2 + q^2 + 2PQ = 1
