For what values of θ is the tangent 0? For what values of θ is the tangent undefined? Explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for theta=0 tangent is 0 and for theta=90 tangent is undefined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tangent=perpendicular/base for theta=0 degree its perpendicular is 0 and for theta=90 degree its base is o

Tangent is undefined at pi/2 (90 degrees) and 3pi/2 (270 degrees). On the unit circle, those values are defined as having a cosine of 0 and a sine of 1 or -1. You find tangent by taking sine over cosine. Doing this would give you 1/0 or -1/0. You can't divide by 0, so there is no answer. Tangent is 0 at pi and 2pi. At these points, cosine is 1 and sine is 0. In either case, you get 0/1, which is 0.
