When given the following: 6x^5 + 7x^6 – x – 8 Would it be considered a polynomial or trinomial considering there is a constant (8) ? Would the constant be regarded as a term as well even though it's not tied with any variables?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The -8 counts as a term so what you have there is a 4 term polynomial.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The constant term can be thought of as -8x^0

So is the correct classification of this polynomial a *6th degree polynomial* (4 terms)?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yes

Thanks for helping me understand this. :)
