I'm only guessing, since this problem statement is not exactly dripping with clarity, that we have a Base Salary and a Commission. B = Base Salary C - Commission Rate "if she sells $500of merchandise in one month she is paid $385" B + 500*C = 385 "If she sell $1,000 worth of merchandise in one month, she is paid $470" B + 1000*C = 470 Your task is to solve for B and C. Of course, this is just my guess. A better problem statement would help answer the right question.
