Why do we prefer Magnetic disk storage systems for computers over CDs, DVDs(Optical storage System)?

Speed and capacity. Hard drives have it, optical storage systems don't.

Plus, I'd say that magnetic offers more flexibility, ie you can write and rewrite easily.
