y=-16x2 + 327x + 1023 solved?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Do you know how to use the quadratic formula? For a quadratic equation \(ax^2+bx+c=0, a\ne0\) the solutions are given by \[x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i do but when i even start putting them into the equation it doesnt seem to work at all

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

What do you mean by that? Show me your work...

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

what are you using for the values of a, b, and c, for starters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a is the -16x b is the 327x and c is the 1023

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

a=-16, not -16x; b = 327, not 327x

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

It doesn't come out to be a nice, round number...
